red hots and straight pipes

i just puta new exhaust from the headers back on my 77 f250 4x4 351m.its 2 red hot mufflers(24")and 9 feet of 2.5" straight pipes, man it roars when you step on it but purrs in idle.my question is when im slowing down there is like a popping sound from the exhaust,i guess from air going back in?should i put tips on the exits that reduce it from 2.5" to smaller or thats just the way it will always be?i mean they sound great but dont know if the popping sound is normal.

Nice. Finally someone's truck does the same thing that mine does. Yep mine pops and cracks when getting of the gas or shifting. My friends say its unburnt fuel but I don't think it is....maybe someone else knows. I love it tho its sweet.

Ya Flowtech Red Hots sound really awesome. Gurgly idle and a rippin' bark at only 2000 RPM. Frigin love it and I gotta still make those sound clips!

MemOrex is right, thats what glasspacks do. Make sure your engine has a good tune to minimize it. Ignition problems along with glasspacks will make for some serious popping.

Glasspacks do cause popping, but you can eliminate most of it by adding some 3 1/2" or so tips. If you have an automatic tranny this will almost eliminate it. With a stick it still will some if you rev it high enough and let of of it while driving and leaving in gear. Theres nothing wrong with it though, ive always kinda liked the popping though, but im a country guy.

You will never eliminate it, big tips will make the pop deeper but you will still hear it. Any little leak in the exhaust will also make it pop.

Im all for the popping, i think it sounds awesome....Glasspacks are so sweet, they have everything im lookin for, a quiet mild rumble at idle, a loud bark when you get on it, and then the totally obnoxious popping when decelerating...Whats not to like????

What's not to like you ask? How about the "loud bark when you get on it." Or perhaps the "obnoxious popping when decelerating." That's what not to like about it.

LOL...just kiddin man! I'm all for loud pipes. I had to say it though. I hope your new system sounds totally kick ***!

lol.

i like the flowmasters 'Course, mine is the Deltaforce (one chamber)+no cats = great sound, no pop

Oh, I did have the true dual straight pipes for 3 days, though... there was some pop, but you couldn't hear it since the whole exhaust was so damn loud!!

Flowmasters suck. Sounds like a mustang. Yeah guys lets go around and sound like 50 million other mustangs cause its cool. Flowmasters aren't for me don't matter how many stupid chambers they have. The only way to get the exhaust out the quickest is to run straight pipes. And glasspacks are pretty damn close to straight pipes.

Think about it for a second....drag cars or real race cars? Straight pipes! They don't put mufflers on their exhaust! We're not racers or anything but still I wanted mine loud. And super turbo's didn't make it loud. I love my red hots! And they pop when I shift and it sounds awesome.

I dont what trucks youve heard with flowmaster, but I havent heard any that sound like a mustang...even a 5.0L truck.

Me = Flowmaster over backpopping asspacks...which you also see TONS of people with. It's all a matter of taste though...Im not trying to start a flowmaster vs glasspack war..or am I? nah, lol

Well most trucks may not sound exactly like the stangs because I believe that the stangs have headers from factory or no? Throw headers and Identical exhaust on a mustang and a pickup and drive them like most people do with thier stangs and it'll sound the same.

^I think your right about the mustang having factory headers, but i also heard that they have a different firing order that gives em a different sound...Oh ya and also the intake is different which i doubt would make much of a difference in sound
