oil pressure-briggs & stratton

oil pressure
I have a v-twin briggs and stratton engine that came w/o an oil filter and it runs at 21 hp. My question is, about what oil pressure do you think the engine runs at. decided to get an oil filter and add a pressure and temperature sensor, but the problem is, the pressure sensor reads nothing, and teh oil filter is screwed on tight, but whenever i turn over the engine, the oil leaks out of between the ffilter and mating surface.

Oil pressure is there to conduct the oil down the legnth of the crankshaft. The longer the shaft the higher the pressure needs to be. A short shaft like your briggs needs no more pressure than 10 PSI to distribute the oil. The factory probably set the oil pressure relief valve somewhere around 20-30 PSI.
In an automobile a rule of thumb is 10 PSI per 1000 revolutions. This is a minimum figure and would work under most loads although I wouldn't want to load the engine very much.

Well, I took a look at the filter, and it was fine. I had next day air delivery of the filter screw tube, the right one, and put the filter back on. However the place where i screwed to two sensors in leak REALLY bad. The pressure sensor is a mechanical one, so it needs to liquid to come to it first before registering anything. How's this for crazy, at idle, or about 900 rpms (i tuned it lower) the oil pressure with a new oil filter is......32 psi. At full throttle limited to 4,000 rpms the oil pressure flutters right around 53 psi....doesn't that seem awefully high? The upper bearing is still getting an oil supply...thanks
