What a Trip!

I had to make a trip out to Philadelphia over the weekend.

I stopped Saturday afternoon in Auburn, IN, to check out the Americah Truck Historical Society national convention and truck show. Great Show! They had over 1000 trucks of all sizes and makes. They do it right IMO. Free parking, free admission, a handfull of vendors but mostly just show, no for sale signs allowed, lots of room and not too crowded. I took about as many pictures as my camera would hold. Check out my gallery, I created an album out of some of the Fords.

I was expecting the rest of the trip to be the same old same old but no. I made a parts pickup just east of Pittsburg. As I was making my way back to the highway I thought it rather strange that the police and fire depts were blocking every intersection. Then coming towards me was a parade of Harleys. It went on for miles. I would guess there were around 2000 of them.

Having more time than money and being in no hurry to get there, I like to take in the sites along the old highways rather than pay tolls for the interstate scene. As I was getting near Gettysburg this really nice old Ford hotrod went by. Then another. Then three nice red ones in a row. This kept going on all the way to Philly. I stopped at a light and there was a restaurant on each corner. Every parking lot had a few. One had about six. I looked in my mirror and there was a nice red Model A behind me. As I was driving on a bit further an F1 came up along side of me. Must have not been stock drive train because I was going 65. Next came a stretch of two lane highway. About every third car coming at me was a thirty something Ford. With the window down (no AC) it was fun to listen to them go by. Easy to pick out which ones were running flatheads. I figure they must have been at the Carlisle All Ford show. I might be there next year.

dmptrkr,
Now that sounds like my kind of trip. Very relaxing and enjoyable and then to have the tons of stuff to look at along the way....what a bonus. I prefer to stay away from the interstates also (unless I absolutely am trying to make some time) and I prefere the 2 lane blacktop road of this county.

Glad you had fun
Bobby

Sounds like an exceptional trip! I've run across a big group of Harleys and it is simply awe-inspiring! You East Coast guys have so many things happening within a stone's throw it makes me jealous. Out here it is 500 miles to anything.
