AOD Whistles
Does any one know what can cause an AOD transmition to whistle? It started quite a while ago and I spent a lot of time looking for vacume leaks around the carb and intake. Then when I moved the tranny kickdown rod it the trans started whistling. (sounds like a belt squeal).

The only thing that could come to mind would be a bad output shaft bushing. There realy is not anything that could cause a squeel like a bad belt. Are you sure that the noise is coming from the trans? Even if clutches or intermediate and overdrive belts were slipping they would not make this noise. Typically if the trans is slipping it would cause the motor to rev up, maybe causing the belts to squeel.

AOD Whistles
Sounds resonable. I had it rebuilt over two years ago, and have about 5,000 miles on it now. I had spent a good deal of time checking belts, and for vacume leaks. Some days it does, and some it doesn't. I have heard that they changed the AOD in later years to incorporate rear lubrication. It drives great and shifts perfectly. It's just anoying. I also don't want a premature failure. Can you recommend a good service manual. I am looking into changing the output shaft type anyway, but the haynes manual and others I've looked at don't have the information. Thanks, Mark.
