I just repaired my E4OD that I screwed up when installing a Transgo Shift Kit that required pump removal, but I chickened out at removing the center support. So the front half of the tranny is new. The back half is original.
you dont have to have the tool the hold that clutch pack, a strap wrapped under the bottom can be used to lower it into the trans, but you do have to have the spring compressors, the job cant be done without it

Ya know, you just revived a two year old thread and replied to messages from two years ago..

I'm pretty sure those users have either fixed the transmissions or have moved on to other interests... I doubt they've been waiting around for you to show up and comment on their problems.

Woh!! I also tried to rebuild my E40D and put it back into the truck. 1st and second worked great but because I did not have all the correct tools, I wound up taking it to the tranny shop anyway and cost me 350 to have them go through it. After that I figure it is worth it to let them do the rest of my trannies... also cost me less for every one I bring in. They now do most of my hard work. I still change the fluid.
Good luck in trying it yourself. Hope it turns out great.

PM the OP and find out how it all turned out. He is still on the boards.

What's with posting on two year old threads? You have to go back what, 50 pages to find these? Someone up late with nothing to do?

In response to the original question, imo, if you want half-assed results, you'll get 'em.

I found this one doing a google search for rebuilding my E40D. There's good information in here. I'm still debating on doing it myself or buying a rebuilt/upgraded one.
