I've got an 86 f150 4x4 with a 351HO, when I bought a Ford rebuild it called for a 351 4V long block. Is there any differences in heads, valves, etc. between this engine and a regular 351W?
I'm seriously considering going with a cam, World Products Windsor cast heads and roller rockers. I already have an Edelbrock Performer Manifold and Carter AFB carb, so I should have the intake for the added horsepower. Does anyone have any additional info on wether this engine already has larger valves, etc.?
Thanks, Bob
i have windsor heads on my 90 302 fuel injected, crane compu-cam, edelbrock intake, stock computer. it runs pretty good with these heads, a little weak off the line, large valves, ports hurt low end, over all i like how it runs, but it is using oil! i ran into someone who works at a ford auto care that was having the same problem with these heads, and someone this person knew actually traced it down to the heads, but i didn't get the details. my heads are on a rebuilt engine, it has good compression, i'm going to get a cylender leakage tester and try to trace down the problem, i suspect the heads though becuse of the good compression readings, when i find the problem i will post a message.
I'm not sure of everything the HO came with, but I do know that the 4V long block had at least bigger intake ports to match up with the additional flow of the 4V over the 2V.
Thanks to both of you for your answers, this gives me a good direction to go. I'll install a cam with a good low to midrange for tork and road power for pulling and work my heads over for roller rockers. Some headers should help too.
Thanks again, Bob
