I'll Keep My 7.3, Thanks

I just got back from a quick round-trip from L.A. to Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio, pulling a little ten-foot enclosed utility trailer. Took a friend's 2004 F-250 CC LB, 6.0 Auto. No problem with power uphills, but then again, I had only 3500 pounds, total, in tow.

Kwik posted here a few weeks ago that his impressions were that the 6.0 was kinda' like a small-block. I sure gotta' agree. It seems to make the horsepower and torque, but it's a very different feeling. I can't say that i missed my 4R100 all that much, but I sure would rather be making the trip next time with my 444. Really kinda' strange to look down at the tach and it's reading 3800 or so on an on-ramp. Running an average speed of a tad high of 70, we averaged around 12.1 mpg on the computer. Didn't actually do the math. I wonder if that's not a little low, given the load.

For exactly the same reasons I'd want a 460 instead of a built 351 that got the same milage, I'll be not trading in my 7.3 for some time to come, especially not for a 6.0.

i hear ya... and again... i have no experience with driving a 6.0 so i'll not say anything bad about them... i am however dissapointed that ford didn't keep the 7.3 for WHATEVER reason.... and.... i hope that by the time i am ready for a new mule... they have put a motor in the psd that measures up to the rugged dependability that our mules have....

I agree

One major thing I am was not happy with when I drove the 6.0 was its throttle/turbo lag. I felt like I was always having to get into it just to pull away from a stop sign. My 97 has never had that problem. Ill definitely be skipping this generation diesel also.

My buddy is dead set on getting a 6.0 so we went out test driving last week and I wasn't impresses either. ext cab short box, was a may '03 truck so a real early one, doin 75 on the freeway it never really put you back in the seat, just whistled a lil more, once it downshifted it would take off, but then that didnt even impress me much, acceleration on the ramp wasnt that great either, again just whistled alot.
he keeps making up excuses that its becuse I have two mod'd out 7.3 and if the 6.0 was chiped it would wax my 7.3, different 'strokes for differnt folks I guess.

I'll keep my 7.3's forever also.

Have him check out some forum's on the 6.0's.
I think if you keep them stock and don't pull massive loads, they're ok. I've read a lot about them lifting the heads and puking coolant. Some without mods, most with.

I took an adventure to Lake Cumberland about 3 weeks ago hauling my boat that is around 3500lb. By the calculation I got 16.5 miles to the gallon w/ diesel kleen aditive in my 7.3. My buddy has a 6.0 he only got 14 miles gallon with out hauling anything.

Let him get it....chip it......then take his money. LOL
I watched a clip about a month or two back.....(wish I'd have saved it). Anyway it was a 7.3 doing 105 in a quarter from a standing start. Now that's power.
Did anyone else see it? Or know who posted it?

Thanks 97.
I'll start searching their threads. It would be impressive to show when someone says "I'll never own a diesel......they just aren't fast enough". LOL
