Total noob here, help me out pls! [289, '56]
Hi there!
I'm a total noob in cars, don't even have a drivers license yet... but in a movie I saw the most beautifal vivid blue car I've ever seen, wow! I love it!
For the ones who know the movie (here in the Netherlands it's rare, but don't know how it is over there in the USA) it's called "Dance with me". The information said in the movie is:
- it's a "289"
- it's a '56 Ford truck
As I said, I'm a total noob, and I cannot find enough information on the internet to know what I'm looking for. All I can find is the F100, F250 etc, but nothing about a "289".
Does anyone know which car is meant by the information given above? Pls pls pls let me know, so I can definitely go search for that beauty.
Thanx,
MiMi

MiMi,
Welcome to FTE. There are a bunch of blue blooded Ford folks here that can provide all kinds of numbers on the 289 engine. All I can tell you is that I think this small V-8 engine was used in the late 60's, possibly early 70's in smaller cars like the Mustang and Falcon. If it was in a 56 Ford Pick-up, it was not the original engine as the V-8 offering was a 272 Y-block.
I will step back now and let those with more knowledge fill in all the holes!
Good Luck,

The 289 is a V8 that was made from 1965 through 1968. It's nearly the same engine as a 302 made from 1968 through 1984. Both are pretty common and they're a good choice for the 56 because they make good power and they're lightweight engines.

Hello, Yes the 1956 Ford F-100 is one of if not the most sought after trucks from the 50's. They came with "small back window" or the "wrap around" rear window. 289 motors are great but there are all kinds of motor and trans. setups that are used. Browse around you can make these trucks absolutley awesome. And you can pour an awesome amount of time and money into them. dylan1952
