I place 9" square structural beams X 24" long under all four tires, they have chocks at the ends. This plus the 5 3/4" to 31 1/2" lift trans jack makes life easy and safe for me and trans. (Sunex 7750) I can get pump rebuild kits as well as jack replacement parts 15 miles from home in S.F.. Greg as posted before clean up the front crossmember and it's slots then use Anti-Seize before reinstalling.
.....=o&o>.....
the tranny and engine have been reunited :-) allelujah!
As I suspsected and hoped, it was easier to manuever the tranny to get lined up than it is to manuever the engine. I was able to use the tranny adapter jack setup somewhat. I took off the stands and strap portions just to use the flat plate. I used the other floor jack and some straps to get it high enough to get the adapter setup underneath it.
Thanks for the encouragement. Although I have thrown out my back. I feel accomplished in that I, by my darn self, loaded the tranny on a trailer, unloaded it and reinstalled it using just me and my tools.
Next, I have to battle the cross-members. But, I think I'll leave that for tomorrow.
Maybe she'll be running again before I go back to work on Sat. night.
Greg out
P.S. I cannot believe this thread has gone onto like 7 pages.
ouch. i think i just experienced my first 'getting old" back injury.....unloaded the C6 fron the trailer myself.....then set it down on my creeper.....using my back to lower it...stuuuupid...But I could not very well use my legs, there was a trailer at my knees...
ugh
remind me again why I'm doin all this? Chic's dig it? Mine sure don't dig it....
ouch....
I know that pain.
RX=A shot of Jack and a hot tub. If your back is out, it should slip back in. If you have torn muscle tissue the pain will continue: Find a Potassium enriched beer. lol
In either case it repairs in 2 weeks-if you mind your posture.
Well, I started treatment with wine and a ribeye. And it actually is feeling a lot better already. But, since I was out late partying, I didn't do any more wrenching. Now, it's back to work for 4 nights. So, it will be wed. before I get back to the truck.
Well, the big cross-member went back in easier than I expetced. A little cleaning, lubing and a big hammer and voila! It 's back in place. I think I'm going to need some extra hands to get the exhaust back in place. The clamped portions are not coming undone easily, so I have to work with the entire exhaust from the headers back. For those that have not seen my dual-dual system, that's a lot hardware for one man to manage.
I got half a mind to bolt up the starter and let her run for a bit with open headers just to hear the FE446 again....
Progress will be limited although I'm on a 5 day weekend ;-) I'll be at Game 7 tonight (ebay is the devil), Go Spurs. If you'd have ever told me I'd pay that much to see a basketball game, I'd say you were on crack. But, I figure you don't get many opportunities to see a Pro National Championship for a one hour drive, regardless of the sport. And, I kinda like The Spurs. Then family stuff on Saturday and Sunday.
Well, now I'm fighting the tranny cross-member and exhaust....I got the exhaust back in place on my own, but I can't get the trann x-member back in now....ahhrrrggggg
I'm afraid I'll have to remove the rear wheels, move the exhuast back to get room to put in the x-member then push the exhaust back in place.
Now, I think a nap is in order. I woke up at 2am and started wrenching.....dang night shift....
At least a little progress. I was really worried about that front x-member.
now, to take care of the house and get some rest for the big game..
maybe, I'll get her back on the road Friday :-) I stil have to install the new shifter and C6 dipstick/fill hose.
Oh By the way...That other thing we talked about?? I'll probably end up getting that from you? I just have to pay the guy for my port work...LOL.. Hell I dont even have the C4AE-G's yet and he has almost all the port money??
Oh well one less thing to worry about when the time comes!!
Get some sleep Greg..Its Gonna be a long Night!!! Yeee Haaaa!!
I'll be hanging on the edge of my couch watching game 7.
You really owe it to yourself (and us) to fire that bad boy up with straight headers. Some engines just sound so much more friggin mean with no pipes to clog 'em up.
