PS-3 or XBox 360?
So with both of these coming out soon, I finally decided to buy a console. The last console I got was, in early 90's, a super nintendo... I can say that was the best thing ever! From there I've been playing PC games, but i want a real game system.
I think the battle is between sony and microsoft....nintendo really let me down with the gamecube.
Give me some opinions, gamers...!

The Xbox 360 is supposed to be the best gaming system ever. I have no doubt that it will blow the PS3 out of the water. But I have a feeling they're going to come out with a PS4 that's better than the Xbox 360.
Then they're gonna make a Xbox 720
Then PS5
Then Xbox 1040
Then PS6
Then Xbox 1400
Then PS7
And so on....

If you are a serious gamer don't get either one. The PC will always be better than a console. Here's an example, this is the system I am building my self right now:
- ASUS 64bit motherboard with 800/1066MHz FSB and 533/711MHz DDR2 RAM
- Intel 660 (3.6GHz HT with 2MB L2 cache and 64 bit extensions)
- 4GB of PC 5400 RAM (5400 = 667MHz RAM!)
- ATI 850x PCI Express vid card with 256MB DDR3 RAM and dual DVI / HD output
- 3 SATA drives with 8MB cache and 150MB /s transfer
- Windows XP 64bit

MRKnight, I'm going to differ on that.. Ever played the PC version of Halo? What about hte XBOX version? The PC version's graphics and speed are horrible on even a powerful PC, yet the XBOX handles it no problem.. There are a few other games that are the same way, but it all boil down to what you are doing. A pc is often a lot harder to setup as a strictly gaming box, where a console works properly right out of the box.

Pfolgle - I'll agree with you on Halo and maybe a few others. I think these problems are not indicators of the hardware but the process used to re-write for PC. On the fip side lets compare Doom3 for PC and XBox, or Unreal Tournament. The PC will crush a console here because of hardware. The advantage of the PC is still its upgradeability though and I'll stand by that. The down side of course is cost. The video card in my system alone cost more than the XBox 360 console will. For the record I have a PS2, had a PS prior and the Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Sega 16 and Atari before all those. If I were asked to choose today based on the existing data, I'd take the XBox 360 in a hearbeat. I like the graphics on my PS2 but on some of the cooler games the performance seems to be lacking. The Matrix and Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas come to mind. I think Sony is going to have their butts handed to them.
Someone earlier asked if these consoles will use Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray isn't an industry standard yet, DVDHD (I think its called) might beat it out still. I don't think the decision on Blu-Ray / DVDHD is going to be decided in time for the XBox 360 release so if they do use Blu-Ray they will either be taking a gamble OR forcing the decision.

Yeah, they learned their lesson. Now from a marketing perspective what both MS and Sony should do is release different console versions. Release the basic version for whatever it will cost, $400 is it? Then make an optional second version with much better graphics and processing to appeal to the serious gaming crowd. They'd sell a lot more of the lower end unit but there are a large number of people who would gladly put down $800 or so for a really high end console.

They are both going to be nice systems, but I'll be sticking with sony.
Sony will be using blu-ray discs and microsoft is going with dual layer DVD-ROM.
PS3 is said to have 2.18 teraflop total performance compared the XBOX360s 1 teraflop. Not that I care but that's what they say.
Nice article comparing the two is located here....
