I'm getting ready to buy a steering box for my 82 F250 to the tune of about $200. Does anyone know how to tell if I need it for sure. There was alot of play and I tightened the adjustment. Now it's too tight, in getting rid of the play and it leaks. And I am also curious to see if it's better to get one from Ford or a parts store. ANy help would help.
I found this website a few days ago. <a href="http://www.jobriteauto.com/page4wrecking.htm">http://www.jobriteauto.com/page4wrecking.htm</a>
If you go to the bottom of their "wrecking" page they list rebuilt steering boxes from $130 w/exchange. I don't know how that compares to your price with shipping added, but since they say 'from' $130, it's possible that the $130 is for the non-power steering version, but I don't know.... I'd be interested in knowing what you find out and where you get your best price as I'm sure other's would.
