Hello Folks, I will be picking up my 350 V10 CC/SB Thursday and I have a camping weekend planned for Sat. morning. I will be pulling a 5,500 travel trailer about 100mi each way. As I get closer to the weekend I’ll having second thoughts on pulling the trailer before an adequate break-in period. Can someone tell me standard break-in time? Any comments on pulling a trailer with a 1 day old truck?<O</O
As long as you vary your speed a bit, and allow it to warm up before using significant throttle.
How many miles are on your rig?
If its over 1000, it should be fine.
My dealer told me to drive 500 miles before towing anything (I just picked up my 2005 F350 V10 two weeks ago). He was quite emphatic about it, too. He told me not to worry too much about cruise control, but to definitely take it easy before towing. I will have to double check, but I believe that it specifies a 500 mile break-in period in the owner's manual, too. Good luck with your truck. You will love the power and it sounds pretty darn cool, too.
You should have at least 500 miles on your truck prior to towing.
Drive as much as you possibly can before your trip. Maybe pack up the family and drive to an ice cream shop in the next town.
Vary your speed/rpm's as noted above. Remember, you're breaking in the driveline components as well as the engine.
I Posted this question 90 minutes ago and received three responses, how great is that!!!....thanks
The truck is new, currently has 7 miles on it. Sounds like I'll be doing some tent camping this holiday weekend insted of bringing the camper. My kids will like that. Thanks again.
yea, i believe its just as much to break in the rear axle and trans as it is for the engine ... i gotta put some miles on mine (up to 150 now!) so i can get my race car to the track in a couple weeks.
It is suppose to be 500 miles, but I like you had a trip planned way inadvance, so hook
the 5th wheel up at 20 miles and off to the mountains, I just didn't push it, that was
17000 miles ago.
