2.5l still pings

well im at a loss with me 2000 ranger 4 cyl 49k
still pings
no codes
fuel pressure at rail normal
plugs and wires good (exept ive got the bosch plats in)
used scan tool maf voltage normal, tps in tolerance
engine temp fine
checked and cleaned maf
this is odd cause it doesnt ping to bad around here but when i go to vegas (significant drop in altitude) it pings terribly, it doesnt care about load it seems to just ping when it wants
i work for a local hyundai dealer lucky me, two other techs ive come up just like me no answers
the only funny thing i noticed was the baro readings were like in the 12 range according to the truck, but the news paper called for something near 30, not sure why that would make any difference, also the idle was up and down from 720 to 780 while at opp temp
i really dont want to just throw parts at it
any ideas? maybe i should just replace the mafs

How bad does it ping? Someone told me that they're fine if they're only doing it a little and it's not that loud because my truck sometimes does that. Something that does make a difference is the type of fuel you put in though. Always put in the octane they call for or else you'll risk carbon build-up in the engine... Where do you purchase fuel? There have been certain gas stations where I can't fill up because it seems to make my truck run poorly. I don't think that Rangers have gauges to tell the barometric pressure, either... but I could be wrong.

I recall reading something, maybe a TSB, about problems with trucks designed for high altitude having problems like this, I keep looking for the information.
