At idle, I sometimes hear a spuratic chirping noise???
Hwy driving, at a steady speed - sometimes there is a squealing noise - it goes away when I get on the gas (unlike a slipping belt)???
After reserching this site:
I thougth it might be a pulley bearing - lubed all, as well as possible
I applied belt dressing - this didn't make a difference
I also cleaned-off the belt, and tried roughing up the pully suffaces - no improvement
Could it be the fan clutch - not totally disengaging???
The best tool you'll have in this situation is your ears. Open the hood while the engine is running and listen. See if you can isolate a general location and go from there. There are many things that can make the sound you described: pulleys, bearings, etc. Getting a better fix on the location of the squeak will help us help you. Good luck in your search.
Actually there is an old timer’s tool called a boom stick. Cut off the broom and put one end on the part you suspect and put the other end against your ear. Try it. It really helps isolate sound problems with water pumps pulleys etc. Of course check for codes first…
