i have a couple of questions....a good friend of mine told me that if i cut the cats off my fuel injected truck it will decrease performance, is this true
and he sez that you get better gass mileage with the back tank.. is this true
Cutting your cats off of that old of a truck will probably increase performance ( due to the catalytic converter pluging over the years ) As far as your rear tank giving you more performace I DONT THINK SO ! But I do think your friend is a tard!!!
Tugboat,
Your truck will probably run better w/o the cats , but you also have to consider emission testing ...If its not in your area , you can bet it wont be long before it is . As far as the mileage from the rear tank goes , the rear tank is larger and your friend is most likely basing the mileage on how far he can go on the rear tank vs the smaller front tank . If you do the math , you ll find hes getting the same Mpg on either tank ...its all fuel to the engine , it has no clue where its coming from . Hope this helps .
Paul
Tugboat: You have a 300 I-6 engine with a C6 tranny? I am suprised that Ford would put their beefiest auto tranny on the 300 in an F150. Usually they save their heavier duty trannys for bigger engine/ heavier trucks. For example, with the 5 speed manual you get a Mazda job on the f150 300 six, but with heavier trucks you get a ZF 5 speed manual which is supposed to be stronger.
