Power Steering Problem
Hey fellas, my brother-in-law has a 95 F250 powerstroke and he's having an issue. Had a power steering pressure line blow and we replaced it and refilled with fluid but no power steering at low rpm. But at high rpm when driving down the road it's acts normal unless the rpms fall. What gives?

sounds like it still has a little air in the system, i had to replace a steering box not to long ago and mine is still doing the same thing. the ford manual shows a way to bleed the pump and box down using a vaccum pump. ill get that info tommorow and put it on here. i think im gonna give that a shot, just gotta get the adapter and the pump

yes it was fine before the line blew off and now there is no fluids on belt. it steers fine when u drive on the road at high rpms but has no steering at low rpm range or idle.

I've always turned the wheel "lock to lock", while the engine is running, to bleed the steering system. It sounds like either it's not bled completely, pump is turning too slow (low RPM's, belt slipping, etc.) or the pump is not producing enough pressure at low RPM's (stuck pressure blow-off valve). I've also had a V-belt bite me in the a-- before. A simple check is to try and turn the pulley in the correct direction by hand. If you can, then the belt is slipping. As stated in another post, my 2000 truck's steering get's a little stiff at times at idle and it's something I'll live with.

tried everything I could and no luck yet. barebackjake mentioned something about a procedure that bleeds the line and box using a vacuum pump. Hopefully someone can post that. Maybe that will work. If not I'll have to call "Tragic" City Ford

Did he drive it long after the hose blew? Could be air in the system, wrong type fluid, or bad pump. If it was air it should have purged itself by now.

I drive a 97 F250 that did the same thing a while back, I was got myself wedged into the exit lane for a parking garage in Houston. While I was trying to maneuver so I could get out of the garage, the powersteering pressure hose blew right out of its fitting. I couldn't get parts at night so I had to strong arm it 3 and a half hours back to where live. Once the hose was replaced, it worked like a charm and has done so for the last year or so. No problems like you are experiencing. ROAKY mentioned a pressure blow off valve. I don't know about those, but it would seem like a likely explanation.

If the power steering pump is of the same design for the last 20 years, then it's in the power steering pump. They're easy to rebuild, the only hard thing is to get the case off the pump body.
