I have the third member out of my dana 44 IFS and would like to find out what ratio it has. I found a bunch of numbers/letters that are on the ring gear, but none look like a ratio. Is there a code to it?
Thanks
If I remember correctly all you have to do is count the number of teeth on the pinion gear and on the ring gear then multiply them and that will give you your ratio. The number won't always come out to be the most commonly known gear ratio axample-if the numbers multiply to be 352 you actually have 3:55.

Actually you want to DIVIDE the ring gear count by the pinion tooth count.
you have a 3.5:1 gear set. If you count the ring gear you'll see you have 42 teeth and on the pinion gears you'll have 12 teeth. Divide the 42 by 12 and you get 3.5 If you notice, these #'s (42 12) are ones you posted. Alomst always, the front gears are a "little" different ratio from the rear. i.e. 3.55 & 3.50
