Mitchell Gear Splitter work on my truck?

I'm looking at a Mitchell Gear Splitter for sale that came out of a 79 F350 behind a NP435 4-speed manual transmission. I have a C6 trans and I was wondering if this would work on my tranmission and what exactly would it provide? Is this like an overdrive unit or does it just divide the existing gears? Thanks.
