52 Wiper Questions

Pulled my wiper motor last night. As I thought it is electric. I thought 52 used vacume? If not, and it is a stock motor - does anyone know how to wire it up ? The switch is gone, and there are no wires leading to the motor whatsoever.
As I'm not just a fair weather driver, I really hate to depend on RainX !!

51 was the first year for the optional electric wipers. The vac wipers were stock. Is there any wiring coming out of the motor? I checked the 49-51 and 52 suppliment shop manuals and nothing is shown for wiring the motor. Only a breif mention on the motor.

Barry,
There are 2 screws that look like you could attach wires.

My '52 has the electric. It has three connections for bullet connectors on the parking switch. I have studied it a lot and damned if I can figure it out! The parking switch grounds the motor lead to the case when the wipers are not in park'd position, and breaks the ground when they are. So I can only assume the wipers are hot all the time and the switch actually grounds the motor?? Either that or it is 2-speed and I'm missing something.

There are two motor leads; one to the brushes and one to one of the field coils (only). There are no resistors in the switch as far as I can tell. My wires were toast, so I don't know which went to which terminal.

I've yet to find a wiring diagrahm of how they are wired and what the switch looks like. Even all my parts books are vague on the 52 electrics. Maybe someone with a 51-52 electric wipers that work can pitch in and help solve the problem.

51-52 Electric Wipers

I have a complete unit here with a new wiring harness, and switch. If you send me an email it will be fresh in my mind to get the diagram for you. I can scan it and send it to you.
I just learned how to download pic in my gallery, and don't yet know how to download onto the forum. If you know how this is done let me know and I will put it on for others to see.
Also it is a 2 speed system, and I believe it, the switch gets its power through the ignition switch. The is transformed to the wiper motor. They work great, I have them in my 53.

5-star, If yours is a stock unit, I'd love to see the schematic!

51-52 Electric Wipers

In reply to ALBUQ F-1, the wiring schematic is in my gallery. Didn't know how to post it on the reply.
Hope this will help you out. As mentioned in my blurb on my 53 as undergoing a complete wire harness, and it has the Electric Wipers, I can find out where the 4th wire goes off the switch.
Good luck with yours.

Well, 5-star, that would help except that neither my motor nor the switch has any markings on the terminals! I'll draw up what I have and put in my gallery ASAP.

52 Electric Wipers

I still have one that has the old wires still on both the switch, and the motor, I can maybe take a digital pic if you want and send it to you, if that will help, anyway let me know.

Thanks for the offer, 5-Star, but I've got to convert to a 12v system so I won't be using this one. My parking switch is broken too. I'd love to see a true schematic of this (electrically) but only for personal curiousity.

5-Star, I'd love it if you could send me the pic of your wiper w/wires.

Thanks,
Steve

OK, Bubba was good enough to send a pic of the 2 speed motor and switch, it's in my gallery.
Here is what he wrote:
On Motor<O</O
White is on the right<O</O
Black is in the center
Green is is on the left

On Switch
White is on the right
Black is in the center
Green is on the left

There is a wire that is broken off it must go to the power, this is a 2 speed motor

Anyone know a replacement switch that might work ? I've searched and searched many sites, and all I can find is the ****.

THANKS BUBBA
