1958-1960 223 distributor

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in distributor shaft length on the 223 engine between 1958 and 1960? I'm trying to drop a distributor from one engine (1960) into another that doesn't have a distributor and it doesn't go all the way in. Thanks for any info.

I don't have my book with me, but I recall that the distributor meshes via a gear to the oil pump. Might you not be getting the gooves aligned?

From what I remember they should be the same. Starfox is correct, the distributor meshes with gear and pump. Check the slot direction on the pump and turn it with a hefty screwdriver if need be for alignment.
