Talking 351 Cubic Inch V10 Super Engine! (5.8Litre)

If GM can build a 16 cylinder one-off wonder engine in a Caddy concept, and DMC can build a Magnum for production, why doesn't ford produce the 5.8litre(351ci) V10 all-aluminum, short-deck modular motor based on the 4.6 with 2 more cylinders added? In the February 2004 issue of "5.0 Mustang & Super Fords" magazine on page 40, there is the article on this one-off engine installed in a 99 Mustang GT. This 351ci V10 has nothing in common with the cast-iron, tall-deck 6.8 V10 currently in production. I know you want hard numbers, so:

426HP at 6500RPM and 400lb-ft of torque at 5200!

It pulls all the way up to its 6800 rev limiter and it blew its 7th Cobra R clutch at the track where the magazine was testing it with a Ford provided driver. They had it back the next day with its 8th clutch installed but ran out of track time. They took it to Fords Dearborn proving grounds and ripped a 11.93-second pass at 117 MPH, with a best 60-foot time of 1.83 seconds. On street tires, with a chassis that was not optimized for the track, with 5-into-3-into-1 headers that were welded together not for performance, but just to have them fit nicely in the eng bay, and hooked up to 2 Borla mufflers & 2 DynoMax mufflers, along with two metallic cat-converters and 2 ceramic cat-converters!!!

9" rearend with 3.89 gears
T56 transmission
TWO 70MM (5.4 truck) throttle bodies
Camshafts are Billet based on Cobra R grind
Stretched Cobra R cylinder heads
30lb/hr fuel injectors
Bore & Stroke is stock 4.6: 3.552 x 3.5433

I say to FORD: build it and they will come(me too!)

That does sound like the running unit. I read that article too. Imagine if Ford actually made 'em, and someone came out with a blower kit...

I can see people lining up for them, just before they go fill the tank with $2.60 gas.

Ford should spend some time developing some smooth 4's and 6's and a light to medium diesel (like the MB E320 unit) so they can sell some cars and get some profits going so they can stay in business.

They have spent a fortune developing diesel engines in Europe with PSA (Peugoet and Citroen)
A 2.7 V6 has been completed, available with single or twin turbos.
It is available in Jaguars and Land Rovers over there.
http://www.jaguar.co.uk/uk/en/vehicles/s-type/specs/performance_economy.htm

I know Ford in Australia is trialing this V6 in the Falcon, but it isn't expected until 2007 at least.

A V8 is currently in development, expected to be around 4l in capacity.
This will go in larger Jaguars, and the Range Rover.

Expect to see both in the US (possibly under the bonnet of some Blue Oval products) when the diesel fuel gets lower sulphur.
Along with a diesel F150 and eventually a diesel Ranger (not until at least 2008).

Talking Super Snake

I think Ford should build that engine, call it the BOSS 351, and stuff it into the Cobra when it debuts in 2006. They could call it the Super Snake, or the Ricer Des******

I hope they can figure out a way to make the exhaust NOT sound like a v-10. They always seem to lack the roar and thunder of a v-8.

The reason is simple. If they did, would they get enough ADDITIONAL as in conquest sales to pay for its development, manufacturing and certification costs? It would take a LOT of additional sales. Meanwhile, they have a 450 h.p. or higher Mustang coming out for a decent price in just over a year.
