modified 6.0's
I'm looking at purchasing a used 6.0 excursion. From the reading on this web site it seems the majority are not in favor of modifing this vehicle if i'm not going to do any towing or while the vehicle is under warranty.
My question; is there a way to tell if a vehicle has been modified and replaced with its stock equipment when im on the car lot looking at it. or is it basically a guess and hope that it wasn't modified.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have an OASIS report/VIN check run on it prior to any purchase.. Any Ford dealer can run it for you.. It'll give you an idea of any work/recalls/flashes ect. Ford has done.. Look it over 'top to bottom' (or have a tech/mechanic) for leaks, component/parts replacements ect., or, work that may have been done, if not by Ford.. A very close look can 'often' tell if any exhaust pieces have ever been removed (drilled), or even extra mounting holes drilled for dash gauges, wire grounds/routing ect.. Also take a peek under the dash at the wiring to the ignition.. If a tuner/programmer was used, and gauges were installed previously, the wires are often tapped there, and may show evidence of a previous connection.. I know in the case of my traded off 03 6.0, the pipe plug in the drivers exhaust manifold would have been a dead 'give away' for a EGT gauge.. Thus, the possiblity of a HP tune.. Not always, but it may have made me give a potential 'buy' a closer look..
Depending on the year/engine production date, there may be other issues/info. to concider when purchasing a used 6.0
