Let me tell tou a little something about "BUILT FORD TOUGH"...

Yesterday it rained, and rained, and rained some more. Heavy ground saturation. Small flooded areas. Big puddles on the roads.
Last night, on my way home, in the blink of an eye my truck hydroplained on me. Heavy rain with limited vision. Went off the road in a ditch for about 50' or so. Hit a small washout from an under road culvert. About 5' around and 3' deep. Hard. About 50-55 mph. Went airborn for 20-30'. About 2-3' off the ground into a corn field and sank my truck. I floored the gas and managed to go a few more feet and buried the truck that much deeper. Deep enough that I could'nt hear the exauste anymore.
Engauged 4 hi and went maybe 2 feet forward, hit reverse and went maybe 2 feet backwards. Flipped the truck into 4 low and tried to shove the peddle threw the floor plate. Low and behold the ol' beast snatched and grabbed and snarled and tor himself
out of there. Had to drive threw the corn field for about 2 1/2
blocks or so. The truck never hesitated a hundreth of a second.
Had my wife with me. Some how she managed to stay perfectly calm. When I realised what was acctually happening, instinctively
I reached accross her and grabbed the door handle to try and offer some type of restraint for her. When we hit the washout, my head was snapped forward fairly hard and now I have to wear a brace for a week or two. But my wife is fine and thats all that matters to me. I guess while trying to take care of her and control the truck there was'nt much time for myself. But thats ok.(BTW-we also had our shoulder resraints on.)
Anyway, I had the truck checked out. Save for the gaurd on the catalytic converter being bent down and backwards, there was absolutely no damage to my truck. None. Infact my wife told me it seems to drive straighter than before.(it pulled a little to the right). I do mean to tell you we hit very hard. With a loud boom. Felt like hitting another truck.

Never again will I own any other truck than A Ford. And I've owned them all at one time or another. To think I was getting ready to trade this truck in a couple of days. No way. It's not going anywhere.
When Blue Oval said Built Ford tough!, they never told a lie.
I don't think any other brand of truck would have stood up to this!!!
The truck still has the Wilderness tires on it.(stupid, I know)
Just waiting on Ford.

I am glad to hear that you are both OK, and encouraged to learn of the toughness of the truck.

Thanks guys, a bunch. '00 F-250 SD.Plain. Nothing extra.
Can't imagine doing anything closely similar to this in an Isuzu(SP)
The ol' bones have really started to stiffen up today.I dont think I'll be moving around too much for awile. I'm sure I'll be fine. My wife is totally fine, I'm very happy to say.

theologian: Fine truck you have there. With a Banks Powerpack you must have a 460 V8. What does the Powerpack consist of? I hear it is designed for motorhomes; hence the high torque.

Thank you Tall Paul, I have the Powerstroke Diesel and the Powerpack fitted to it consists of an oversize turbo and down pipe, intercooler, boost gauge, pyro gauge and chip. I had head work done at the same time, and upped the HP from stock 220 to dyno'ed 340hp with 660 torque. The tranny control from banks is a module that bolts to the frame, with a connection into the transmission loom, to completely modify the behavior of the transmission. it shifts firmly, with different characteristics for different loads and speeds. The aux tranny is a US Gear overdrive unit operating on all ratios through the transfer box, so I have it in 4 wheel drive too. I got a 12,000# winch on front too.

The reason I went for the Diesel instead of the gas, is fuel economy - I use the truck enough to benefit from the savings, after the initial cost of the diesel. The 460, rated to pull the same as my truck would get less than 6 mpg. I get about 11 most times, towing and if I am good and do not go crazy I get 15 - 18 unloaded.

Wow Theologian, with all that you just about could pull a freight train. I have the 460 V8 in my 10,000 lb motorhome--a lightweight for that engine. I also have the Banks Transcommand module. It's great. Really shifts nicely. Now with all that power what do you do with that truck? Perhaps you should name the truck "Dunamos" (did I spell it right?), the Greek word that is the root of our word dynamite and is translated as power in Romans 1:16 (KJV).
