After pulling the axle on my 82 F100 I found that I have the 31 spline axles. I posted about that in another thread. Only other thing I need to know now is what spool bearing size it has. I've looked in the summit and jegs catalogs and from what I can see it looks like the 2.891 case has the 28 spline axles and the 3.062 has the 31 spline axles. I just want to make sure before I order the parts. Anyone know how to find out which is the correct one? Thanks Fred

 

You'll have to remove the carrier to know for sure. There are three possible stock carrier bearing. The 3.06" OD/ 1.78" ID or 2.89" OD/ 1.78" ID or 2.89" OD/ 1.62" ID bearing & race size. You will likely have the 2.89/1.78 set but you need to look before buying....Ken.

 

Most 9"'s use the 2.89. I was told that mine would have the 3.062 since I have 31 spline axles. NOPE! Need to buy a set of 3.062 bearings?

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll have to pull the 3rd member and do some measuring before I order the bearings. Its too bad all that info can't be on the ID tag. Fred
