that is good advice krewat

also
if your carrying good weight you should look at the load rating and psi
info that is right on the tire
I think the manufacturer of the tire knows what it needs

If I were to run max load on the tires at some of the pressures ford recommends--- there would be trouble

I always keep my rears at 80 cold and fronts at 70-75 cold
I notice no ride differce with the recomended psi to what I use
I dont know about mpg
I just bought a 1500 dodge(sorry guys) to help rectify my $700.- per month fuel bill with the 05 v10--- I plan to keep both for a long time and the dodge will pay for its self in saved fuel money

Report back here, to this thread, and let us know what the MPG is with the 1500... and what engine? I'd be curious.

please dont get me wrong---- I am a ford guy buy you some times gotta just get what works and is available for your needs

I got a 2000 1500 ram 4x4 w\5.2
it gets 17mpg roughly

I like my new f350 with v10 but seriuosly $700.- a month in fuel??
I cant afford that --- thats more than my truck payment or $400.- month

now i use the v10 for work only and park it in the garage at the end of the day and use the dodge from there

I dont know why my numbers are off from some of you guys but I get consistent 6-7 mpg every tank and trust me I check every tank
any ways Im just replying to the post

later

brianas, I get 6-7MPG standing on the gas every time I leave a stop sign... that's quite low. Seriously low...

Angry 6-7 mpg?

I have a '05 SD 250 V10, Reg.Cab, long box 2wheel drive. Got it new on March 1st. Have 2670 miles on it now. The first 1500 miles ave mpg was 13.90. At 2600 the total ave mpg was 13.97 so it hasn't improved at least not yet. I am satisfied with this mpg.
I will do a lot of towing this summer and will have to see but I'm hoping for 10 or at least 9 towing 5 to 7000lb.

If I get 6-7 mpg, me and this Ford will split as soon as possible, maybe this Fall or Spring of '06. I'll have to find something, anything that will do the job more economically even if it struggles on the hills. Or quit towing and in that case I won't need the big engine. Will let you know what my towing mpg is.

This sounds backwards to me. Why get a Superduty? Why get a V10?

The difference between 6-7 and 9-10 towing a load? Not much... Is it worth it to beat the snot out of a smaller motor and have it last half as long? Not to mention the safety of towing that much?

I don't get it... whatcha gonna get? A Dodge 1500?

6-7mpg with the V8? Something is wrong. I have a V10 Excursion with 35s and I get better than 11.4 in town consistently. My city commute is 13 miles with about 8 of it highway with speeds of about 60. and the rest at about 40 and stop and go. I work on an Army installation and wait in line every morning as well. The V8 should net you about 1 mpg empty over the V10 if not the same. Under that and you have a problem unless you never take it out of second. I never hesitate a run to 4K rpms. 4K to my motor is Jim Beam to me, Just gotta do it.

I think If I hooked my fully loaded trailer behind the the dodge
it would pull the front tires off the ground-- maybe I will it will be a cool pic
You gotta have the right equipment to get the job done right

I have yet to calculate my mpg since ford "reflashed" my computer
for the check engine light
maybe it will increase--doubt it could get worse

sorry to hijack this thread

Thumbs up My SD V10 Passed the Test

With 60 lb in front tires, 75 lb in rear tires like the door sticker says, we made a 1500 mile round trip. 1000 lb of "stuff" in the pickup (pickup also has 250 lb topper) and pulling 20ft, 2500 lb car hauler with 2000 lb of "stuff" (car parts, welder, etc) for total wt. of 5500 lb. Car hauler has heavy 3/4 plywood, front and rear and 2ft high side panels of 1/2 chip board fastened to 2x4 in stake pockets. (Empty trailer wt 2500lb)

On the way there we averaged 11.19 mpg and surprisingly coming back with empty pickup box and empty trailer the ave was 11.79 mpg. I would have expected more with 3000 lb less wt. Drove a little faster coming home empty and used AC more, maybe more wind resistance with the tarp off of trailer and suppose that all had an effect. MPG figured on hand calculator, no built-in computer on XLT. Paid $2.04 for gas one time, the rest of the time it was $1.99 to $1.97.

PS lots of poor roads and even the 200 stretch mile of interstate had lots of holes that could not be avoided. Surprisingly the tires didn't blow.

I have been running mine at 55 f/r and I air up rears at 75 towing. I can't stand the high press when empty load.
