Question 2-4bbl or 2- 2bbl on a 240?

i purchased a 1966 f100 flairside with a 240 I6,everything is stock.the truck runs stong engine is in great shape but the exhaust and intake manifolds are shot.i purchased a clifford 2-4bbl single plane intake manifold off e-bay that was new to up grade the old 1bbl,but would it be better to go with 2- 2bbl so as not to overcarb or go for the 2-4bbl set up,and also what is the least expensive exhaust manifold upgrade that works with this intake?another thing is where do you locate reference material on how to set up a 2 carb system?any help is greatly appricated

I dont have any info for ya on the intake question, but the exhaust is easy. Get some exhaust manifolds from an 87-96 EFI motor. You will need a new down pipe to go with it, but they flow much better than the log type stocker on there now.

kssouth -- there are very limited number of parts that are not identical between 240 and 300. Crank, rods, pistons, and the head itself. In the case of the head, all the bolts are the same location, valves are the same etc, so they are swappable. But the 240 has higher compression, and thus slightly smaller combustion chambers. A popular swap to a 300 is a 240 head to bump the compression.

Anyhow, the REST of the stuff, including the block itself, is the same. You cannot infact tell the two apart externally.

The EFI exhaust manifolds from 87-96 (two, they are split) will bolt to your 240. Need a walker downpipe (do search for part # here).

Two 2 or two 4 bbl carbs on a 240? With stock cam and internals? I don't think that will work. You will drown her. You would need hellacious RPM to draw enough air through those carbs to make it worthwhile.

Not to dis this site, but the guys over at fordsix.com might know better. I don't really know either, for sure. But it sounds wrong.

Sorry,

Yeah, that's alot of carb. There is one guy on here with dual 4 bbl's, but his is done up right, large cam and all. It definatly looks cool. But to answer your question logicaly, the best bet would be dual 2 bbl, but you need some help with a cam swap.

i put a 600 edelbrock on a '74 240. bolted on top of stock intake. Runs 200% better than it did with the stock 1 bbl. It opens the back barrels when ya gouge on it. Have been getting around 16 to 17 mpg. Note to the naysayers: don't say it can't be done if you ain't tried it.

My choice would be for the single 4 barrel. I think two progressive 2 barrels would be great choice. I do not know what carbs would work the way I would want if I went with the 2 barrel.
