The Wallmart worker here said that Ford took Motorcraft away from Waleys because it was hurting the dealers ability to do oil changes. We get it at Advance Auto Parts and Autozone. NOTE: I switched to the MC synth blend and filter and my gas mileage went up!
I noticed that Castrol Syntech makes 5 - 20 for ford Full synthetic. I'm thinking of going to this oil. The previous owner was an amsoil freak, so I'm thinking of staying with the full synthetic. but a little cheaper. My previous vehicle ran like a top on the syntech. Any objections out there??
Nwo, if you go down to the oil forum there is a lot of good info there. You'll find it very informative as I have. There is a lot of hype, misinformation and flat out lies about oils and they cut through it down there as well as I've seen. From what I've read, Motorcraft 5W20 semi synth with a Motrcraft, Puralator or Wix filter is the way to go for conventional. Mobil 1 seems to be the prefered full synthetic. Good reading down there.
This completely blows me away. My Dad just brought me back 2 cases of Motorcraft 5-20 from his winter home in Yuma Arizona and It is a different oil than the Motorcraft 5-20 you get in Canada. I have both in front of me and I went out in the garage and poured a small amount on a clean piece of metal. The US product is noticably lighter in color. The US brand is called Motorcraft 5-20 premium synthetic blend and the Canadian product is called Motorcraft 5-20 Super Premium. They are both rated for API SL service but they have completely different specification numbers. I believe the US product is probably a higher quality so that is what my V10 is going to get from here on in and I will use up the Canadian stuff in my Honda. I truly believed they would be the same product until I did my little comparison test.
Unknown to me til just a couple minutes ago, the W as in 5W-20 doesn't stand for Weight, as I had always believed. The W actually stands for winter, well holy jumped-up jeepers palomino ! Did you know that ? Learn something new everyday huh. Here's an interesting test done in New York City, on NYC taxis, pretty interesting reading;
I change my oil every 5K. My 99 V10 ALWAYS takes a quart between changes. Consistanly travel 100 miles a day. I use Valvoline 5w30 (6 qts) and yes the oil on the dipstick is difficult to read! And a good filter the K&N or even a Bosch that i found at Autozone they claim to capture the SMALLEST of MICRON particals. Thought about getting a magnet that wraps the filter. Any thoughts?
99F250_v10, I'd love to see you try Castrol GTX (dino) 5w30 for one oil-change cycle, and see if you still use 1qt before the next oil change.
Just a cusiosity really, and don't do it if you don't feel right... I'm just trying to gauge the "volatility" ... as in, how much evaporates over time.
Autozone is no better or worse than wal-mart for being an "evil corporate entity". I have friends who work at the local autozone during their off season months, and they make next to nothing.
I live near a Wal-Mart distribution center so alot f my neighbors workk there, and they all say the same thing. Wal-Mart pays you what your job is worth. No checker is actuallly worth 15 dollars per hour. The person may be, but the job is not.
I don't want to start a war over such things on this forum, but i get tired of hearing how terrible Wal-Mart is when they saved the area from large amounts of unemployment.
If you ask the store manager enough times for a product, they will get it for you.
