Oil dipstick tube replacement - 94 F250 w/351W

It seems that nature (ie: rust) has taken it's tool and broken my dipstick somewhere where it disappears under the exhaust manifold. I can't seem to figure out how it mounts other than it goes into the block as opposed to my 84' 351W which goes into the pan. Since I don't have a service manual for this truck yet, how does one replace the dipstick tube on these engines, it's a really tight fit down in there under the header.

I looked on Parts.com and could not find it, has anyone bought one and have a part number handy?

Thanks,

Bryan

Dipstick and tube are a factory item as far as I know, Ford sourced only. The tube is a light press fit into the block and has a tab welded on that has a bolt holding it in position. Fairly easy replacement if accessable, headers may complicate this, though.

The dipstick goes into the block, and near the top of the dipstick tube is a "tab" on it, it goes to one of the manifold bolts, so just get a new dipstick (can get one cheaper from the aftermarket then from ford, ford wants $30 for a tube and $14 for the stick, summit has one for $11 complete) and use one of the bolts on the exhaust manifold.

Summit Racing's PN is TRD-9222 for the one I'm talking about, just make sure you get the right one for your application (this one may or may not be what you want, it's what I got).

Thanks for the info. Since I'm contemplating getting headers, I wonder if there is going to be a problem with the dipstick mounting if I replaced the factory exhaust manifolds?

There will probably be a slight adjustment required, nothing the average guy shouldn't be able to handle. Maybe file a side of the bracket off so it fits on the bolt next to the header....something simple....

Rusted out Dipstick Tube

Just bought a 1994 F250 XLT Supercab 4 X 4 with the 351 in it. We were going to give it a shakedown cruise today so I decided to check the oil. Pulled the dipstick and most of the tube came with it. Got down underneath and could see about 5" sticking up from where it enters the block or pan.

Assuming that Ford still has this part, what is a fair price for it?
Will it be necessary to buy a dipstick as well with the new tube?

Never had a dipstick rust before!

Thanks,
Peter

I was thinking about this last night. Try Lokar. They make a replacement oil tube. It's braided and real nice looking (and durable. Had one in my Ranger with a 351W).

Need to find a better place to buy parts.

Stopped at the closest Ford dealership this morning and ordered the dipstick tube. Part No. F2TZ 6754 B It will be there tomorrow morning at 8:00am. With tax (6%) it came to $44.45.
I have to believe this part can be had for less than that.

I also needed the intermediate e-brake cable (#F6TZ2A793MA) that cost me $53.24 w/tax and the left side tailgate support cable (#F7TZ 9943053 A) that cost me $32.50 w/tax.

Since I just got this truck I don't know the best places to find parts.

This forum is loaded with good info.
Thanks,
Peter

Summit Racing - High Performance Car and Truck Parts l 800-230-3030
RockAuto Auto Parts
LMC Truck Parts: Chevy Chevrolet Blazer S10 GMC Jimmy S15 Ford Bronco Ranger Pickup Pick Up Accessories/Catalogs

Summit has engine stuff and can usually come in cheap (dipstick, valve covers, etc...)

Rock Auto has all your mechanicle needs usually met.

And LMC is a bit more pricey but they will undoubtedly have what you need!

Also besides these sites just try getting your Ford part nubmer and doing a google shopping search for the part number...

F2TZ6754B .. Dipstick Tube / Available from Ford

MSRP: $40.32 // FTE Ford Dealer parts dept sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $29.03.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
F6TZ2A793MA .. Brake Cable / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $48.30 // PARTSGUYED.COM price: $34.78.
------------------------------------------------
F7TZ9943053A .. Tailgate Cable / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $29.48 // PARTSGUYED.COM price: $21.23.

PARTSGUYED aka Y2KFORDPARTS.COM = Ed Olson, parts manager of MILLENNIUM FORD in Seattle WA.

You will have to pay shipping charges, but there is no tax charged on parts shipped out of state.

I can look up any Ford part for y'all from 1928 thru 2002.

Ed can and will do the same thing (He can look up parts for 2003 and later vehicles). Neither of us will charge y'all a cent for this service.

btw: Since the parts are still available from Ford...where do y'all think LMC is buying them from?

The answer is: From a local FoMoCo dealer, prolly at about the same price y'all can buy the same parts from PARTSGUYED.

Why pay MSRP...or worse?

Bill,
Thank you very much for the information.
Next time (no doubt sooner than I think) I will contact you. Would have saved about $38 on the parts less the shipping.

Thanks,
Peter

Welcome to FTE

You'll want to contact Ed Olson at parts@y2kford.com because...I'm retired.

I haven't worked a day since 8/97.

Mainly what I do here on FTE (when I'm not typing Ford history or yelling at someone) is...looking up and then searching for obsolete parts for y'all.

If the part is obsolete...you can contact me here on FTE by a Visitors Message, or by a P/M or by email. Click on my user name for access.
