decoding tansfer case cast-in numbers

decoding tansfer case cast-in numbers
I found the following information cast into the casing of the transfer case on my son's 1979 Bronco - no ID tag though.
Can any one tell what this information measn:
on the rear section of the case: C-11865
W "D" within a diamond
on the front section behind the transmission: C11871
Because the numbers are different does this indicate a "parts" t-case ?
