33's or 31's and 35's

I have a great newish set of 31's and I want to go bigger, but I know 35's will eat a lot of gas and cause a loss of power. (I dont want to regear)

Should I just go with new 33's for on and off road, or get a set of 35's with rims for off road and keep my 31's for on? that way i could switch as I please

I don't off road much, I also have a very short commute.

i just wish i could try out 35's to see how bad it would be on the road.

whats your drivetrain like now? what gears? tranny? t-case? do you haul any trailers or bed loads of weight? what motor do you have? what kind of tires are they... all terrains or TSL's? how short is a short commute (short to me is 10 minutes to the nearest gas station)? and what kind of wheelin do you do?

paint us a better pic so we can show you the right colors!

1990 Eddie Bauer Bronco

5.0 302

Transmission code "E" which i fugure is the E4OD.

Transfer Case Borg Warner 13-56

Axle code "19" i believe is 3.55:1
The tires are most likely all terrain bfg's

i would say 33's.... you can put them on a bronco without a lift and you will retain decent mileage and all. and when you do go offroad the 1356 will have a low enough lo-range to make up for the bigger tires.

if you dont mind gettin a lift i would suggest the 35's for the same reasons. if you were to keep your foot out of the EFI and feathered it you could very possibly keep good mileage

I already have the 3" body lift and a front leveling kit. 35's would fit for sure

oooo.... ok. well then do you have someone you can borrow 35's from to see how they would treat you? i would lean more towards the 35's b/c you can always get more power out of your motor or even re-gear way down the road if you decided to. but you will always wanna go a lil bigger. after a while the 35's will seem small and you will be back asking who to buy a lift kit from =)

Fish hit this one on the head...i would go with the 35's at least. I started with 34'' TSLs with no lift. Had that setup for one year. Put on a 4'' lift. Then went to 38.5 boggers. Now i have 42's and now kinda wishing i went with 44's. Never ending i guess.

I realize people always want to go bigger. Actually, I will be leaving for the Army at the end of June and my 16 year old brother will be driving the Bronco around. I doubt I will be wanting to go bigger than 35's anytime soon, also the truck would no longer fit in the garage and i have no driveway. What I really want to know is how bad 35's would be with my gear combination.

mmmmm... well it sure won't have the power you felt before the bigger tires but you will still have plenty of power. just dont be entering any races or anything. sounds like a good combo for a 16 year old to me.... harder to race and get to high speeds! and on the highway running 65-70 it should ride awesome and get awesome mileage. you might wanna check out your brakes too b/c acceleration isn't the only concern... stopping power can be drastically reduced! just a thought

35's fo sho, and out of curiousity, what type of tire are you looking at?

My friend has a BKO w/ a 351W swapped in it that isnt exactly set up properly (just thrown in there and most of the stuff is hooked up, using the OEM 302 computer) and he can run his 35's on 3.55s w/out any trouble. It doesnt accelerate as fast as it did w/ a 302 on 31's and 3.55's, but its still pretty good. He also has 9" of lift which doesnt help with speed...

Oh, btw, his MPG did drop to 8 in the city...
