I have a 2005 6.0L powerstoke diesel. I have oil that is spraying up under my hood above the turbo. I have taken it to my Ford dealer twice and they told me that it was my oil filter cap. They said oil gets trapped between the "O" ring and the cap and then spits out once my turbo fans kick on. I thought this was B.S., so I taped a plasic bag over my oil filter cap and sure enough the oil was back on the inside of my hood. What do you guys think? Has anybody else had this issue?
Hey just a question for Go Zags-- are you a big Gonzaga fan? Just curious since I live in Texas where the Bobby Knight coached Red Raiders are. If you are a fan, I was going to give you a hard time about the tournament!
my truck an 04 done the very same thing check the turbo inlet hose and the plastic hose coming from the intake the ford dealer I bought my truck from had mine 3 times to finally determine the housings were bad that they over torqued to start with after the hose blowed off several times . they told me it was everything from the turbo lubehose to the oilfilter cap .
Thanks Foxdoc. I'll be sure to check those hoses. Ridered29, I'm a huge Gonzaga fan. I graduated from G.U. in '99. You guys totally lucked your way through that game. We gave it to you. I guess thats what you get for playing down to the competition..ha..ha. It was a horrible moment in Zag history...Watch out for us next year!! The best is yet to come.
I would like to add, check the clamps on the CAC hose at the throttle body. Yes the front hose. My own truck and couple others were getting oil sprayed on the hood directly above the turbo. The throttle body clamp did not look to be leaking but wiping underneath the clamp there was oil. It's hard to believe but this was isolated by blocking the entire top of the engine off up to the fan shroud with a white sheet...test drove and then checked for oil leaks. As you would assume, the area around the turbo was checked but a small area up by the trhottle body was the only area. The oil would drip and hit the fan just right and spray on the back of the hood. Cleaned the rubber, clamps and retorqued. Problem solved. I posted this find at 6literpowerstroke around June of '04 under "bizzare". Needless to say my service rep was very apprciative for sharing this information as they had not been able to find the leak. PS. these leaks can be hard to find due to thermal expansion. I could always find see the leak when first driving but after warm-up and wiping off it would not show again until it completly cooled down.
Because, the crankcase ventilaition empties into the intake between the turbo and air filter. The turbo compresses the air and the oil tries to squeeze out wherever it can post turbo.
In the ...Tech Foilder..... there is a procedure for rerouting that crancase ventilation.
