my truck is a 66 f-100 4x4.I need a little help. first question- in all my stupidity i managed to strip the threads on the shaft that the steering wheel sits on. So what im wondering is what years of trucks can i rob that inner shaft from. Second question- has any one ever bought one of those aftermarket steering shafts for i think the company is borgsen? They only list back to late 60's. So would it fit. One more quick question does anyone know why ford changed up and the different styles of steering shafts. like mine has the ujoint style and others are the rag joint setup.
That steering shaft is setup that way because it is a 4x4. The rag joints are used on the 2x4 trucks.
That makes it harder to find one.
I would suggest you take the truck or the driveshaft to a machinist, and have them cut new threads. Then, use a smaller nut with a larger washer. You might even be able to do it with the steering column in the truck yourself, if you are very careful.
