Test report on SVO
I visited an alternative fuels web site that reported a test on SVO in a university mule. (test engine) I recall they had about 2500 hrs on the test engine when they switched to palm oil. The engine ran about 350 hrs before it failed. They rebuilt the engine and reran the test achieving about 500 hrs before it failed again. They had notes comparing palm oil to soy and rape seed oils but I can't find the web site back. I'll post it if I stumble across it again.

I've spent several hours on a couple different evening trying to relocate the site I mentioned but haven't had any luck. Searches for palm oil, SVO, mule, etc have led to lots of interesting articles but not the one I referenced.
For what it's worth I don't recall the engine being identified except to be called the "mule". I believe the engine was described as using IDI and that the palm oil was most likely used straight and untreated except for filtering, which might explain a lot about the test results.
My apologies for referencing incomplete information from an unverifiable source.
