While I am sitting here and only have the net as my connection to the outside world, I come here to travel and experience the things that I can not do right now!!!!!
So people, don't let me down, keep the pipe line open!!! Gotta know what is going on out there.
I drove through Kansas last week . Went out to Georgia for a Ford Truck meet out there, thought of ya as I was going through Lawrence mark .
Braved a blizzard on the way out there (never thought I"d be so happy to see Kansas - AFTER I got through the blizzard), a near blizzard on the way back, and then upon my arrival, my freshly installed gears decided to take a crap, but at least they waited until i was back in town and not out in the middle of... well... Kansas or something! .
Such a sad sight... http://mattstruck.com/trailerqueen1.jpg
I'm in a VERY cold room thats lit up with tons of florescent lights, is filled with hundreds of huge computers with lots of loud cooling fans mounted in racks with even bigger and louder cooling fans, along with 4 giant air handlers that pump cold air under a raised floor with vents all over the place to keep the air temp a nice constant 60 degrees at the floor level and 65 above that. To come and go I have to go through 2 badge access doors to get to the elevator that only goes to our floor. SO I'm sitting in a cold, bright, loud room in a basement with the net as my connection to the ouside world 8 or more hours a day. Sorry, I'm not going to be much help.
Yeah they are taking care of the gears. Luckily I caught it before it caused any problems. 30 miles after returning from my 3000-mile trip (good timing!) I heard a noise that sounded like a flat tire, thought it was the road or something, but immediately pulled off into a parking lot, to find gear oil all over the place. Luckily it was nothing serious, the pinion had moved about 1/2" (improper installation) which had caused it to hit the carrier a bit and knock the seal out, which is why it was leaking fluid. Luckily no damage was done, and they are covering new bearings/seals as well.
Monitor servers and mainframe and network and on the weekends I'm the helpdesk for the entire KUMed campus, AND I freaze my but off. Its not all that bad, some day's in the week I get to go out and run around fixing computers and stuff all over the hospital, I like those day's, we have LOTS of cute nurses and nursing students. The worst part of that is working in the burn center, or ICU's, especially the pediatric and neonatal ICU's, seeing a 2 year old in bugs bunny PJ's walking around with an IV pole and half his head burnt is a very humbling experience, makes you realize that no matter how hard or tough you think life can be, there are much worse things. ER is not too much fun either, but most of the bad stuff there happens after hours, like shootings, and stabbings, you should see what it takes for the public to come into the ER, security rooms, metal detectors, gaurds and cops with guns. All the joys of working in a hospital and I'm not even a clinical person, the nurses and docs get to see this stuff all day.
