The only problem here is that you will bypass the PATS system making the truck easier to steal.

I couple of years ago, I bought a used car (wholesale) that only had one key and remote and the owners manual wasn't in the glove box. I took the name and address of the prior owner from the title and wrote them requesting any keys they might still have and the owners manual if they still had it and offered to pay the postage. About a week later, a key, remote and owners manual arrived in the mail and the cost to me was about $6.00 for the shipping. The attempt was well worth the 37 cent stamp.

The fellow we bought our (used) Mercury Sable from seemed quite pleased with himself that he spent the extra money to get a second key...I am now seriously considering getting the 3rd key for both our truck and the car due to these horror stories!

I just ordered an extra key blank from e-bay for my Escape and Town Car and plan on getting one for my F150 this week. I worry about losing one key and spending a bunch to replace it. If I have an extra, programing a new key is not a problem.

I gave my wife my keys when we were up in the snow and she lost them. Then trying to get an extra pair to me I couldn't because they closed the road. Was able to get a ride down the mountain where My extra set of keys were brought to me and began the 8 mile hike back to the truck. Thanks to the San Diego Border Patrol who gave picked me up after a half a mile and gave me a lift the rest of the way I was able to get my truck home. Went to the dealer for replacement key and $175.00 for 2 keys and a replacement alarm.

Advice: if you only have 2 keys go to the dealer get a 3rd and keep them away from the wife.

If you have the originals get copies made for everyone and put the originals in the safe deposit box.

If you have two keys, buy one on e-bay, take it to a local locksmith to have it cut, and take a minute to reprogram it yourself. Less than 20 bucks total. Don't go to the dealer, unless you are lucky enough to have a non overpriced dealer.

Aloha All, Yesterday 4-10-05 I pulled the plastic under the steering collum down and removed the chip reader (ring) off. Only one screw holding it. Zip tied the only key to the ring two places so it can't slip then zip tied the ring and key out of the way to a wire harness. I figured while I have this piece of cheesey plastic out of the way I might as well get rid of the KEY IN THE IGNITION Ding, Ding, Ding, Dinger. I'm much happier with this arangement. Now I can have all four doors open with the stereo on without that annoying noise. Anyway it all works good and I have four extra $1.00 keys and one hidden under the truck. Much Mahalo to all!!!! Can any one of you send the link in eBay for Ford key duplication and remote transmitter? This would save some of search time for them. Thanks in advance if any.

I know this lady who is D.D.G. She wanted a third key and I told her they were expensive. About a month later, she had a new key. I asked how much she said "free" She called a dealer, and said she locked her key in the car. They told her they needed the code and she called them back and said she got it off her dad. When the guy came out she batted her eyes at him and he just about fell over himself reprograhming the key. I said there had to be more to it than that, she told me she gave him the telephone number....of the courtesy phone at the office she was visiting, the same one she called the dealer from. The timing she used when telling me this almost caused me to choke to death on a sip of coffee.
