wheel back spacing

My 91 1/2 ton is measuring about 4 1/4" back spacing on 7 inch wheels. I am going to 8 inch wheel with 33 12.5.'s. I think i want 3" back spacing????
This site has been awesome in helping me build my truck right the first time around.
any info/ tips would be great

Back spacing is the distance from the inside of the wheel to the mounting surface. Your new wheels will be further away from the wheel assembly and stick out further.

Try to stick to a stock backspacing if you can. The farther out you put your tires (meaning less backspacing) the more stress you put on the wheel bearings and knuckles. This causes faster wear. Unless you're using a tire that's large enough to hit radius arms or springs it's not necessary to go out farther.

Also, with aftermarket wheels, it's very hard to find anything with less than about 4.25 inches of backspacing. Most wheels that are wider than 8 inches have between 4.5 and 4.625 inches. Good luck finding a 3 inch backspace.

If you truly need that little backspacing, you might consider wheel spacers.

I'm running 3.5" now but that was easy enough because the wheels were custom made. But Cody is right, it's tough finding wheels with less than 4". I think the majority are 4 5/8" backspacing.
