1985 Econoline w/6.9L Diesel

Did Ford ever make an E-series in the Early to Mid-Eighties that had a Diesel?

If so how common were they?

Thanks for your help,
Ladd

Yup they had the Econolines with the 6.9L diesel in the mid eighties (I think since '83 or '84). Actually I think you could order any heavy duty econoline with a diesel since the mid eighties. A lot of ambulances came with diesels since the early 90's. Their weren't a lot of diesel Econolines in the 80's because the diesel represented a significant upcharge for the diesel option. They are out there though, you may want to check put the dieselstop.com for better info.

I own one a 86 e-350 Diesel 6.9 extended & I work the hell out of it I haul heavy stuff & tow trailers. Its a extended cargo van Pine green in color, its getting rusty here & there but its a workhorse. O yea I bought it 2 years ago for $850 & the guy that sold it to me thought he was pawning off a problem since it burns a full quart of oil every 150 miles , but guess what 30,000 miles later Im still driving it just adding a quart when its low & checking it all the time, the consumption hasnt gotten worse. The guy is said to be amased Im still driving it. You can nurse these motors to go a long time.

I figured these were rare since I never heard of a diesel van before I bought this.
It gets about 10 or 11 mpg I would guess.

If it's using that much oil I think I'd go ahead and rebuild it...

Saw one on e-bay, was in Texas, had tons of new stuff, 850 opening bid, no bidders, I'd love to have it, but needed to sell our truck to get the cash and would need to pay for trucking it to TN. I want one, they are hard to fing because the diesel option was rather expensive, and at the time many were weary of them, felt they weren't for private owning, just for company use.
