hi guys,on our british motorway i was pushing my rv loaded at 90mph and it seems to hold back is there a restrictor on it or was it the valves bouncing?any way i found 85mph it cruises ok
Most every year V10 has a rev limiter and a top speed limiter most set the rpm at 5000-5400 before it stops fueling and most VSS and PCM limit top speed to 93-95MPH for tire safety reasons. Bothe of these can be defeated... but like posted earlier why?
A blow out at 90 is going in a Class C Motor Home to hurt!
Well, even though I certainly don't want to see another superduty flying past me at 120mph (suspension way to soft for those speeds), I am extremely frustrated by the 5 second fuse on the speed limiter.
On every vehicle I have ever had, once it was safe to I checked out the limits and control method.
My 01 always topped out the 93mph long before the 5600 rpm (had to use mid gear to top out the engine rpm.
In both cases they raised to the limit and just stayed there... no bump, bobble, or power fall off.
On many of my older cars and trucks the limit would kick in and power would be lost until a reduction and then it would start over again, very annoying pulsating and bucking. I like this method much better.
And if your rear gear is lower, that will bring down the "rev limiter" to a lower speed... you might have a pretty low rear gear...
You can get rid of it with a Superchips or other aftermarket tuner, but would you want to ?
I changed the rear in my '96 T-bird from 3.27 to 3.73 - the rev limiter went from 106 to low-90-something... Superchips made it right
Uh Krewat, we're talking about a motorhome, not a pick-up. Do you really want to give advice to a guy driving 90 mph with 27 feet and 14,000 pounds down tiny english roads ? My guess would be at 90 mph in a motorhome, the frontal area would stop further acceleration,,,,,,,,,,don't ya think ?? HAHA, (sarcasasm off now) Ken
Actually, British roads are pretty well maintained, or so I hear, so highways are easy to do that speed without problems. Plus, they are very polite so they don't have people doing stupid things at high speeds.
bombx3, what was the speed limit on that motorway?
our motorways are real wide 3 to 4 lanes each side ,i must say they are very smooth 70mph speed limit but most cars cruise about 85 now days no one does below 70mph the police realy enforce it above 85 if you do 120 mph its not out of the ordinary most reps no where the cameras are but no one is stupid if you dont wana go fast you just sit in the inside lanes,in my nissan zx 300 i regulary go 140mph ,we over here have a lot of nitro heads if you no what i mean.i have had blowouts before but s... happens .
Ahhh Europe and a Nissan 300ZX I remember those days fondly first in Germany with a single turbo VG30E and then with the twin Turbo and intercooled that I let a group in Morefelden sort of like Lingenfelder or AMG take a lot of my money and give be back a real fast car.
Too bad the ausilanders(sp?) clogged up the A-bahn.... Darn if 2 or 3 hours at 168mpg was not fun with a Capitol F!
i may be coming over you way to big johns rv centre .dallas internation to get a new rv ,i may see if i can pick up a second hand truck aswell v 10 of course as the exchange rate is good on the dollar, whats the second hand market like for trucks in texas
bombx3 it has been a while but last I saw the Dallas market was good for V10s as the city folks are afraid they are a high tech performance gas guzzler so they do not sell as well as PSD SuperDuty trucks.
