Gas Tank

I have a 68 ford F100 that i am working on relocating to under the bed. I was wondering, what tank(s) could I find to fit under the bed for that truck?

Do a search. That's been discussed here many times. I think some guys go with a mustang tank and it fits perfectly under the bed between the frame rails.

alvie - I have done alot of searching on this topic on this site, and it seems that every time someone brings it up they say do a search. From what i have researched and read, most people talk about the Mustang tank. But I don't think I have read a thread where someon has actually done it on a 67-72 truck. most of them refer to the tech article a member did on a 54 truck. I sure would like to hear from someone who has done it on a 67-72 truck. I'm not saying I have read every article on this site about the conversion, but I have spent a couple of hours for sure.

That looks about right. Too bad the search isn't easy. But I know I've read a number of threads in here where guys have put a Mustang tank into their 67-72 trucks.

Ford offered an underbed gas tank as an option, look around your boneyards. You may find one.

My 72 has a 20 gal aux tank under the left side of the bed, from the factory. It could be used as the main tank.

WillyB, what are the dimension of the tank you got under the bed? So, i can use that when looking around, might go that way instead of a rear mounted tank.

It is a stock Ford - fits between the frame rail and driveshaft. There is a notch in the floor of the bed for the filler neck, which sticks out through the left quarter panel.

It will work on any long bed, but you will need the mounting brackets and sheet metal "tunnel" for the box from a donor truck.

The only downside is that you have to be creative with your duel exhaust - either route it on the right side of the truck, or outside your frame rail.

That and you have to mortage your house to fill it - gas is up to $2.65 a gal here in California. I filled both tanks the other night and it cost over $100.

Try searching the '61 - '66 forum especially. The frame dimensions are identical from '65 - '72. You can swap cabs and beds, with correct mounts points being interchangeable without alterations.
Details on making a rear tank for a '65 and '66 will apply all the way up to '72.
They should also apply for '61 - '64, but someone else will need to confirm that.
