caddillac seats in 56?

A while back I read in cct an article about Bobco in Lake Elsinore putting cadillac deville seats (96-99) in a 56 ford. I,m seriously considering doing this myself.

Have any of you done, or tried this? I would appreciate any feedback concerning
installation and fit.

Wayne,

my original plan was to put 88 sedan deville 60-40 seats in my '53. It was like having a huge overstuffed sofa in the cab... also the car seats sit much lower than truck seats... I sold mine and went with a truck bench seat... sits like a truck and plenty comfortable with tilt forward back for storage... I lost a lot of leg room with the caddy seats... they lay back totally differently than a truck seat...

hope it helps

I bought a set of power leather 60/40 seats from a 2000 Buick ($200) which are probably similar to a Cadillac in size. Like John said they do "fill up" the cab. I did raise them 3" but have not driven the truck very much since installation due to installing one piece power windows and doing some paint work. Hopefully, it will be on the road in 2-3 weeks and I can decide if I'm going to keep them or not. Larry

good question Wayne, I am near that decision myself. Also thought about modifying the stocker to wrap around the inside of the cab sort of like the roadsters of the 30's. Anyone ever seen this? comments?

Well I just picked up a set of 98 deville seats (leather) on ebay for $189.
I thought for the price I could experiment and see how I like them, If they feel like or look like an overstuffed sofa John, I'll pass them on to someone else.

Thanks for comments and I'll keep you all posted.

Fatfenders56, I like the idea of the wrap around but I would be worried about seat adjustment. would that still work? I,ve been trying to build my truck so that my better half wouldn,t have a problem jumping in it and taking off. At least that is what I'm telling her when I try to explain that it's "our truck honey".

to quote TGOMD "you drive from the back seat anyway" My six foot frame needs a little foot room anyway so moving the seat back a couple of inches looks good to me, going forward is a no brainer, I'm glad someone likes the idea, thanks but I'm still interestred in the sofa

I just swapped a 1990 Chevy pickup seat into my '57... it took me about 20 minutes to put it in... and it is the perfect width and height... and for the big back window guys, it would not stick up past the window creating a MAJOR F-100 FOOPAH! (i.e. seeing the head rests or seat through the back window)

I know the c***y truck seats will work fine and Ive seen some that look real sharp installed. What i'm running into is cost. I want leather seats and I haven"t seen any 90's c***y truck seats for sale with leather. I had one guy tell me for him to reupholster the seat in leather is about $.1000 for a total of about 12 to 1300 for a seat. The cadillac seats are already leather, power, heated, etc. so if I can make them work I thought I would be way ahead. $325. including shipping.

If anybody has a c***y truck seat in leather, let me know. Wayne

Another problem to watch out for with really contoured seats is that you may end up not centered behind the steering wheel. It can feel annoying after a while if the wheel is an inch and a half to the right of where you're sitting. Been there

Howdy,

I have a 94 Suburban K2500 4x4 and it's leather equipped. (buckets in the front.)

The driver's is power every which way too. I think they'd fit just fine in my 55 F-600.

I am leaning toward a 60/40 bench though and there's a lot of choices out there.

Dark metallic blue truck and Gray leather interior! CD changer and Vintage air. Best equipped farm truck around!

Cheers,

Rick

How come when I type Chevy it comes up Chevy... and when you type it the "hev" gets asteriked?

Does this board not let people use the word Chevy unless they have reached a certain level of eclecticism, or what?

Sam.

Whatever seat you use, measure carefully. Try to keep the backrest from getting any closer to the dash. Little room for error unless you are very short. If you got "Dunlop Disease" that could be an issue too"

I'm under six foot and I could use some more legroom. I'm running a stock seat with only a little extra padding. I'm going to end up adjusting my pedals if I want a truck that is comfortable for long rides (which I very much desire).

I noticed the front of my 53 seat is a full five inches closer to the pedals than my 95 F150.

It appears I too have Bowtie Hackin' priviledges. That's really Cool!
