clutch problem?

i have a 89 f150 and have problems shifting into 1st and reverse.there is a little grinding. it will go through the other gears fine .is this a clutch adjustment problem?hydraulic clutch any answers would be helpful

Has the clutch/slave cylinder ever been replaced? My '92 F150 4.9, M5OD was starting to go into 1st with some difficulty at about 125,000 miles. The clutch pedal would go in about half way before I could feel anything engage. After I had the clutch worked on everything was much better. Sorry that I cannot add more.

Check your master mount for flex. This was a problem in some mid-late '80s rigs. There was a factory fix, but if this is your problem you will probably have to fab your own reinforcement.
