Protecting F150 Supercrew 4X4 drive shafts from rust

Why doesn't Ford use a product to keep the driveshaft from rusting and corroding? If I used a spray can of flat black rustoleum would I cause any problems such as an out of balanced drive shaft? The paint would be minimal just enough to cover the bare metal to try to keep it from rusting.
