Dana 44 5-lug to 8-lug conversion

Has anybody ever modified a Dana 44 from 5-lug to the 3/4 ton 8-lug pattern??? My buddy has a '93 F-250 4x4 with the TTB front end with leaf springs. He wants to switch to a solid front axle. I can get a hold of a set of axles out of a '79 F-150 for cheap, so we were looking into the possibility of switching spindles or hubs to accomidate his truck. If anybody has any info that would be great.

Thanks,
Aaron Weyhrich

everything bolts on from the ball joints out, BUT, the axles wont fit your buddies truck, they are coil spring axles and set up totally different, his best bet is a 1980 or newer (different years are better than others, you might need to check it out) dana 60, it bolts right onto the leaf spring front end in that year

Actually, you don't need from the ball joints out. You only need from the spindles out. Of course, you can do the knuckles if you want, but then you have the steering arm studs sticking up, but don't need them on there

good point, but i was just saying it will bolt on, everything is the same but the main axle housing ( leaf / coil ),......... if maybe the 8 lug stuff had new ball joints or something was broke or worn on the 5 lug knuckles

still in all, a later model d60 would be the better choice

Yeah, I have a set of 8 lug knuckles with brand new ball joints on that I am going to swap on sometime. Of course, then I have the 3 studs doing nothing but sticking up
