Hey i have a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT with 4.0 V6 2wd. I've been searchin on the net lookin at other trucks and seen some pretty sweet ford rangers like mine that people have fixed up and can get through some stuff going off road that other 4wd's can. But lots of people I talk to say its a waste of time and money to fix up a 2wd why not go an dget a 4wd instead? What do yall think is it a waste of time and money to fix a truck like this up or what?
I've never seen the logic in doing that, but maybe I miss the point. I just don't see what the advantage is if you have all that wheel travel and clearance, but don't have the traction advantage to use it.
Man,i've saw so many fights over this subject..lol..personally,i think the 4WD will outperform a 2WD any day,if you are offroading...if you're just wanting the looks, the 2WD would be fine,i just definately wouldn't put alot of money into it by lifting it and everything,i'd just go with say a 3 inch body lift..and MAYBE a cheaper suspension lift...but as far as serious offroading,i don't think i'll ever see the day that a 2WD outperforms a 4WD offroad
I've had both, and the 4x2 just doesn't have it off road. Even with over 500 lbs in the back, t would get stuck pretty easily. I'm sure if you added a locker and some good off road tires, you could improve from what you have, but you will never be able to hang with a 4x4 when the traction is gone. It all depends on your needs in a truck. If you want to do real off roading, then you will need a 4x4. It's been my experience that anyone that thinks their 4x2 can hang with a 4x4, have never really been offroading, unless you're taling about desert racing, that's a whole differnt thing.
