Most of the turbo-back aftermarket systems WILL retain the factory cat. IF you choose you can get a delete pipe (at extra cost) that allows removal of the cat for testing or off-road riding.
Today's cat's have very efficient flow, and removing it doesn't allow any significant gains in airflow.
I suggest a quality 4" turbo-back exhaust system, and leave the cat.
Just to clear things up...
(Maybe it's just me that is confused by some of this )
but it is a FEDERAL LAW that requires a cat if you had one from the factory... heck with the "no inspection sticker" issue...
the STIFF FINE - like $10,000 - is more of a deterrent to me...
And like Heavy said... test have been done that show that the difference with or without a cat is almost immeasurable as far as it's affect on performance and horsepower ...
if u want to be picky, u only need to have the cat "in position". if u want to run tuners and dont want to deal with the soot plugging problem, punch the crap outta the cat and put the empty can back in place. its not illegal, as far as being on the vehicle, and u can be sure its free-flowing
That's what I did, and I love it. It sounds geat! I call it "The poor-boys exhaust system"-no muffler and gutted cat, cost me about $25 for the pipe to put in place of the muffler.
When posting a reply that is directly above … THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THE QUOTE FUNCTION....lets say we get 2500 posts a week, just
to pick a number, and only 50 percent used the quote function…well, you can imagine how many extra pages are used, and not at all needed…
Thanks
I have the MBRP with cat delete, sounds like a 747 with a v-8 straped to it. I love it but dealers frown when comes to warrenty. Ive still got my cat and thinking about gutting it and putting it back in. My question, is the cat a 4 inch id and do you think the people from FORD warrenty would look at the cat to see if it has been modified?
