Hey guys, I need to know what the width is from the outer edge of the tires on a truck with stock rims. I am looking at buying a reg cab 4x4 92 IDI and wanted to see if I can squeeze it on my small 16 foot landscape trailer. It is only about 76 inches wide. I have gotten a 78 f250 on it before. I could measure my 1997 PSD but it has 305-70-16 tires on it.
My bone stock F-350 4x4 with 265/75 R16s measures 72" from outer edge of tread to outer edge of tread on the rear wheels. Add another inch or two if you want to include the sidewall bulge of both tires.
My 92,350,4x4,reg cab, stock 235/85-R16 tires,is 72 across the rear, however its 76 across the front.Frankiethewire, could you measure your front and let me know what you get? Got me curious as to the 4 inch diff in front and rear.
Sure enough, I have 76" across the front as well. I had it plowed up a snow bank so I could reach an outlet to plug in at work, that's why I just measured the rear. I'm surprised at such a big dif. I always knew there was a dif. b'tween front and rear track, I just didn't think it would be so much. Anyone know why?
Thanks for checking,i feel better knowing its normal.I too knew there was a diff in front and back however i never measured it before and just thought 4 inches was maybe a tad extreme.BTW reimer, dont forget the diff in weights,That 78 was deff a lot lighter than the idi.Safety 1st!
A 10,000 pound trailer will be at or over it's limit with a diesel pickup on it.
Figure a 7500 pound truck and a trailer that will be 2500 or more pounds is 10,000 plus.
Besides with the diesel in the front you are gonna be awful tounge heavy when you load it. If you back it on the tounge will be to light to tow well.
A 16 foot trailer is not going to leave you any room for adjustments in where the load sits, in fact the ramps probably will have to come off because they will be hitting the back of the truck.
