1.54 rocker swap

I was wondering what is involved in swapping to the high ratio rockers? My heads are the C1TE's. (I know, what I really need is a good set of heads!) Can I use the current rocker shafts? What other considerations would there be?

You might notice a decrease in low end torque putting the 1.54s on the 8.2 compression motor. I'm sure someone else will pitch in. You could use the same shafts if they are in good condition, which they likely aren't. Then where were you going to get the rockers? If trying to find used ones, the chance taken there is that they would be worn and need rebuilding. Mummert sells new 1.54 rockers, and Rocker Arm Specialties sells new aluminum roller rockers in 1.5 and 1.6 ratios.

Red's Headers sells rocker arms and shafts for Y blocks. He makes them better than new with bronze bushings on a hardened chrome shafts if you want. That is what I put on my 292.

Glasspack, one thing you might think of is the cost benefit ratio of the rocker swap. It would be $320 minimum, (assuming new parts are purchased) and the performance gain would IMHO be marginal. You could rationalize that the new parts are needed anyway to replace old ones. Or you could look for some different heads. You want them, and will end up getting them, so go for it. The ECZ-Cs shouldn't be too expensive and would be a big improvement.
If you go with ECZ-Cs, call John Mummert and ask him to sell you the new 1.78 inch intake valves that I sent him. They should be very reasonable.

Thanks for the info everyone, it is helpful. I have decided it makes sense to find a set of big valves heads and do the whole deal right one time. Now, back to motor assembly!

rogerf100- Your motor looks great! I have been admiring your pictures, it keeps me motivated. Where did you find the linkage for your carb set up? I have everything I need except for a progressive linkage.

Thanks!

I got the Offenhauser progressive linkage from Hot Rod and Custom Supply in FL. http://www.rodncustom.com or call 941-574-7744

It can be used on all 3 bolt carbs. I had long shafts installed in my carbs when they were rebuilt so this linkage would fit easily.
