Question which tuner to buy ????

hi everyone tryng to gett some feedback form ppl that have bought the different tuners for their trucks. I have 04 lariat screw with 5.4 looking at the DIABLOSPORT, the super chips and the hypertech the DIABLOSPORT seems to be real a real sweet deal but i have only had exp with Hypertech in the past i was just on their website and saw where they claim that there 87 octane program is almost equal to most other tuners high perf tunes was wondering if any one has used this tuner and was looking for insight into the other ones thanks in advance for any help.

I have the Superchips 1714 Tuner and am pretty happy with it. I am however going to upgrade to the Xcalibrator 2 as soon as it is released in the next few weeks. From what I have read it is the ultimate custom tuner!

^^^ I have purchased two Superchips 1714 units from Motorhaven. They are the tuner that I recommend.

my vote is for the superchips 1714. i am running the 87 tune now and it makes a huge difference in performance, especially in the throttle response.

ok i'm gonna ease my soap box out of it's dusty corner and brush it off and say that i would and will be happy to use motorhaven as they do support this website which has been great for finding a wealth of information and as I live near atlanta i could acutally drive to motorhaven and pick up the stuff . but with that said. being married with 2 kids and having temp custody of my cousins 4 kids money is tight and i have to make the best decision on what and where to buy my upgrades that is why i made this post to hear from ppl that have acutally used these products and get their honest views on what was the best buy. so with that said while i will try to use motorhaven if they don't have the best price or the product that i want then i won't

I am very interested in buying a chip for the truck but would like to stay with the 87 octane, is it worth getting a chip and getting the 87 octane tune??

The 87 tunes does much less in the way of peformance gains versus the 91+ tune, but it will change the transmission characteristics quite a bit. I ran the 87 tune for the first two weeks, and my truck was night and day in comparison to stock. I do run it in 91+ most of the time though (I have no problem with an additional 8 dollars a tank for premium with the gains it provides).

If you see a better price on either unit please call Motorhaven at 770-736-7122 and they'll beat it. Currently there are some restrictions in place about advertised price so call if you find a better deal and MotorHaven will beat it!

So you noticed a little bit of difference in performance, plus tranmission changes. Did you notice any MPG gains or losses?

Yes, the driving characterstics changed quite a bit with the basic 87 tune. It really woke up with the 91+. There was no loss of mpg on the 87 tune, and almost 1mpg gained on the premium tune.

Well, people, I fully believe the way to go is Hypertech. Their tuner lets you use 87 and still comes close to the 91 premium fuel Hp the other chips deliver. Seems like a no brainer as the tuner pays for itself quicker. This is just like the Airaid tube I bought. Yes I could have paid $250 to $300 fore one of the fancy pancy Intake systems, bet I get clear gains from $92. There's always more than one way to skin a cat!!!
