Thanks to Tom Foreman and the others who responded! The problem was: a 97 aerostar 4.0's daytime running lights stayed on, after the vehicle was shut off.
The blue 'brights' light indicator stayed on also.
Tom suggested that, since the vehicle was a Canadian make, it had a daytime running lights module (DRL module), which might be faulty. Another post helped me locate the DRL module....I couldn't find it in the Chilton's manual: it's to the right of the battery, single-bolted to the right compartment wall; it's about 3 1/2 inches by 3 inches, and has fins, and an eight-pin connector.
I paid $74 for a new one at the local Ford dealership (Portland, OR.) and it took all of 10 minutes to install. The 'brights' indicator went out (when car is turned off) and the daytime running lights also went out.
Wow, Thanks for the plug. I am glad you let is know what the problem and fix were. Someone else with this problem will be able to find it here. This is a very useful place. I keep haning around and put in my two cents where I can. When I have a problem I come back and search. I have a Haynes, Chilton's, and a manual on CD. However this is the most useful of the bunch.
