Outside Door Handle Question

I am working on the doors of my "50 F-1. Prior to disassembly, the door handles sagged slightly and I would like to correct this at reassembly. The latch assemblies appear to be in decent condition but need cleaning and lubricating. Should this solve that problem?

The coiled spring on the latch end where the handle goes thru is weak. They make replacements or there are NOS ones are out there. THey come up on E bay now and then and also fit GM cars and trucks of the period. I've got to get a couple of these also for my 50 F-1.

I talked with a fellow at the knotts berry farm ford show who had a great restored truck and still could not resolve the handle problem. good luck the new spring might work Ed ke6bnl

To correct the handle position, if all else fails, heat the square shaft and put a twist in it before it goes into the latch assy.

donc1, if all fails look at my gallery on my Bearclaw Latch install. I really like the shaved handle look on my 51, and the new latches are working great. Makes me feel good to know that no one is going to be able to walk up to my truck and just open the door, when I'm driving it.
